Things to look out for in European football: May 11-12

League football in Europe is entering the homestretch. However, there’s still a lot at stake especially in Serie A, La Liga and the Eredivisie. Here are some of the Things to look out for in Europe this weekend. Bet on European football here.

Bayern to clinch the Bundesliga?

Bayern would prefer another opponent other than RB Leipzig in the penultimate weekend of the season. The results of this match will have far-reaching consequences in the German top flight. If Bayern win, they will secure their seventh straight Bundesliga title. If they fail to win and their closest challengers, Borussia Dortmund secure maximum points against Fortuna Düsseldorf, the race will go to the last day. However, Bayern have dominated this fixture in previous meetings losing just once against Saturday’s opponents. Moreover, they have more quality and experience to handle pressure situations which shouldn’t be a problem barring any dramatic scenes.

Serie A top-four race

Only four points separate third and sixth in the Serie A. Inter Milan, Atalanta, AC Milan and AS Roma are locked in an exciting battle for a Champions League spot. With just three matches to go, all of these teams have difficult games. Inter, who have one win their last five still have to play second-placed Napoli. Their arch-rivals, Milan, who have two wins in their last eight matches, will play their remaining matches against teams in the bottom half of the table. Roma play Juve this weekend and anything other than a victory will be a disappointment. Atalanta will have to go through Juventus to have any chance of finishing in the top four. Either way, all these teams can’t afford to drop points at this stage which should make it a thrilling run-in.

Monaco’s battle for survival in Ligue 1

Monaco currently sit in 17th position with Caen just three points behind them and with a similar goal difference. Leonardo Jardim’s men are in a rut at the moment. They are winless in six Ligue 1 matches. With Caen snapping at their heels, picking up form at the right moment, Monaco will need to get maximum points in their remaining three matches starting with Nîmes Olympique this weekend. They need a performance and three points or risk relegation.

La Liga top four tussle

Getafe, Valencia and Sevilla are engaged in a bruising battle for the Champions League spot in La Liga. Surprise package Getafe are having a phenomenal campaign and currently occupy the fourth place, with 58 points. Both Valencia and Sevilla are tied on 55 points but Los Che have a better goal difference. Getafe have two difficult matches remaining against champions Barcelona and Villareal. Sevilla have tough two matches against Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. Valencia seem to have more favourable fixtures which will be against Alaves and Real Valladolid. Getafe seems to have the advantage given they’re three points ahead but this is a contest of fine margins like goal difference.

Eredivisie title race

Ajax’s incredible run to the Champions League semi-final ended in agonizing fashion when they lost to Tottenham Hotspur at the death. However, they have an opportunity to win the Eredivisie with two matches remaining. However, they’re level on points with PSV with 80 but with a better goal difference. Barring any twists and turns, if Ajax win both their games, they’ll win the Eredivisie for the first time in five years. PSV have won seven of their last ten matches in the league and will have to score a ridiculous amount of goals to pip Ajax to the title.
