Things to look out for in Serie A – Matchday 38

The Serie A season will come to an end this weekend, with crucial battles at both ends of the table set to take place. Here is a look at some of the interesting things to keep an eye on. Bet on Serie A here.

Battles at both ends of the Serie A table

Inter Milan will be looking to book their place in the Champions League next term when they play Empoli on the final day of the season. This is arguably the most fascinating clash of the day in Serie A as it will affect the top and bottom of the table. Inter Milan need to win to assure their Champions League place whilst Empoli are seeking a victory to save themselves in the relegation fight. A loss would leave them vulnerable to slipping into Serie B. Inter were able to climb into fourth with a final day win at Lazio last season and one year later they find themselves in the same position – needing to win on the final day to make the top four. Will they be lucky this time around?

Fiorentina and Genoa to fight relegation

Fiorentina have found themselves in the relegation fight and they will play Genoa as they both battle to survive in the top flight. Fiorentina started the season with ambitions of making the top six, and the first few months set them up nicely for a Europa League push. However, things have gone south in the last  18 games, where they have only won once. Genoa are also in a similar quagmire as they have not won any match from their last ten fixtures, with the last win coming at home against Juventus. Both have struggled to score goals and for that reason, we can expect a cagey affair with little to show in terms of goals scored.

AC Milan to win?

AC Milan will be hoping to jump into the Champions League spot with a win away to SPAL on the final day of the season. They need to win here and hope that results elsewhere go their way in order for them to secure European football next season. SPAL come into this game in decent form after accumulating 19 points from their last ten games and this should worry the visitors who have not been that great on their travels. However, Milan can take heart from the fact that they have scored in seven of their nine away trips in Serie A since the turn of the year. The visitors have something to fight for here and that should be good motivation for them ahead of this fixture.

End of the road for De Rossi

Roma’s hopes of playing in the Champions League next season suffered a major blow when they drew away to Sassuolo last week. However, they have more reasons to finish their season on a high when they host Parma this weekend. Daniele De Rossi is set to bring the curtain down on his Roma career and this should be his last game in a Roma shirt. He has been a huge presence for Roma this season, while he remains loved by the club’s supporters. The big question that begs is will his Giallorossi career end with a victory?

Juve’s poor form to continue?

Juventus will play Sampdoria as they hope to reverse the trend over the last couple of weeks. Ever since the Old Lady won the Serie A they have struggled for form and have only won one of their last eight matches. They have also not been very prolific in front after scoring three goals from their last four outings. We don’t expect this approach to change despite this being the last game for Massimiliano Allegri.
